2008-06-06 Deepak Chopra: Racism Bites Back, Using Religion as its Pawn - On Faith atWhich is good in the larger picture. The return of the repressed is inevitable. Our hidden fear, anger, and resentment can come back in one of two ways, either as open fear, anger, and resentment, or as unfinished business that we want to heal. Obama is definitely on the healing side, and so are many in the younger generation, who long ago became used to interracial dating and color blindness in every area of life (except, possibly, moving to black neighborhoods). Its the rest of us, the older generation marked by a history of racial strife, who havent forgiven history and let go of outworn stereotypes. Not surprisingly, this holds for older blacks like Rev. Wright as much as for older whites like Sen. Trent Lott. On Faith is an innovative, provocative conversation on all aspects of religion with best selling author Jon Meacham of Newsweek and Sally Quinn of The Washington Post. Keep up-to-date on global religious developments with On Faith. - Deepak Chopra

In an attempt to quell the controversy, BJU officials repealed the interracial dating ban and apologized for past racial violations.
2008-11-28 Post-Standard LetterOlivia Fraziers "Voices" commentary , "Dating Outside the Lines," was a brilliant piece on interracial dating. I applaud her for writing it. All of us are human beings, regardless of what we look like on the outside. It is nice to see that more interracial couples are emerging and are willing to share their story. Eventually, society will realize its not all about the color of someones skin. Whats most important is the love those people share. 2008-11-27 The Volante - Love, not politicsOne of the most monumental changes to marriage occurred in 1967 with the ruling in Loving v. Virginia. This case dealt with interracial marriage in America. Prior to that, interracial marraige was forbidden by the Racial Integrity Act of 1924. There were fervent opponents of interracial marriage at that time, claiming that it would mean an end to traditional marriage. Since Loving v. Virginia, allowing people of different races to marry has destroyed few, if any, marriages.
2008-11-27 Beliefs behind racism and raquo; GetReligionBob Jones University is probably best known at this point for the 2000 presidential campaign controversy involving its ban on interracial dating. After then-candidate George W. Bush spoke there, he was criticized, and the ban was lifted on CNNs Larry King Live show by the universitys then-president Bob Jones III. The school had used the Bible to justify discrimination in the past, such as in a 1998 letter to a writer who questioned the schools ban on interracial dating. Then, school officials noted that God had created oceans to keep men apart, as well as ethnic, cultural and language barriers.

2008-11-12 Interracial dating is still an issue in high school, Syracuse teen writes - Voices By, For And About TeensI am bi-racial (1/2 white 1/2 black). I went through many issues as a teenager when it came to dating. I remember breaking down to my mother once after breaking up w/ a white boyfriend because his father didnt agree, then getting heat from a new boyfriends family because I wasnt "black enough". I went on to have four children with him (we are divorced now) and now my sig. other is white. I guess as you get older it burns here and there to hear things. I choose just to live as a human and not be labled by race when at all possible. My children are if you want to be technical 1/4 white 3/4 black. One of my sons girlfriends is white, my other sons is black. It truly for them is a personal preference. For me, I just prefer they find someone who compliments them in character not color.
